1-3 for Manchester United Wrexham: League Two team wins, and star Paul Mullin sustains lung puncture
3-1 Wrexham Goalkeeper for Man Utd "should have left," says Parkinson
Wrexham defeated 10-man Manchester United 3-1, but the League Two club's triumph was marred by Paul Mullin's injury.
Mullin, 28, who was playing for a United team primarily made up of players under the age of 21, collided with goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, who was also injured.
After the "reckless" challenge, boss Phil Parkinson advised Bishop to "steer clear" of Wrexham.
Wrexham won thanks to goals from Elliot Lee, Aaron Hayden, and Sam Dalby.
Spanish player Marc Jurado, 19, scored for United in stoppage time of the first half. Shortly after the break, Dan Gore, 18, was dismissed from the game.
Ryan Reynolds was unable to attend, but Rob McElhenney, a co-owner of Wrexham, was there to witness his team's historic victory in front of a 34,248-strong crowd at Snapdragon Stadium in California.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, watched his young team's performance from the bench while his older players continued their journey to Texas ahead of tomorrow's encounter against Real Madrid.
Jonny Evans, a seasoned player who left Leicester City at the conclusion of the previous season, was also a member of the Premier League team's starting lineup. Evans is back on a temporary basis.
