'Awards are a motivation to keep improving'

Jamal Musiala feels winning the 2023 Golden Boy award - for the best young player in Europe's top leagues - would be vindication of the work he has put in since leaving the Chelsea youth set-up to join Bayern Munich in July 2019.

He has scored one goal in 23 appearances for Germany since making his international debut in 2021, aged 18 years 27 days, and has racked up 31 goals and 23 assists in 125 matches for Bayern.

"I think it would mean a lot to me," he told the BBC. "All of the hard work that I have put in over the last few years, the award would be a recognition of that hard work - everything I have put in, me and my family.

"It is also a sign for me that if I keep doing what I have been doing then individual awards will come.

"If I can do well with Bayern and win some trophies, and also with the national team, then that is the main goal. But it also a motivation for me to keep improving."
